Health Safety and Environment

SAGE has an Integrated Management System (IMS) that encompasses Health, Safety, Environment and Quality.

The IMS documentation covers all the elements for the 3 standards AS/NZS 4801, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 as well as legislative requirements for both Workplace Health & Safety and Environment.

The IMS aims to instill a Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) culture across all business units through integration and communication at all levels.

Workplace Health and Safety

SAGE has been certified to AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems by DQS Certification since August 2010. SAGE aspires to zero harm for our people. Management is committed to having a proactive, preventative approach to workplace health and safety management which promotes a culture of 'safety is a shared responsibility'.

SAGE instils a safety culture across its business through a thorough employee corporate induction which includes safety requirements and the presentation of the HSEQ Policy. Contractors are pre-qualified and are required to sign in on arrival. All employees and contractors are given site specific inductions as required. Prior to the start of any job, a Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA) is completed.

To ensure a proactive approach, all employees and contractors are made fully aware of the Hazard Reporting System which is recorded on the Workplace Hazard Register. In addition, lessons learnt from incidents and hazards are reported through Safety Alerts that are communicated via email, noticeboards and through meetings such as ‘tool box’ meetings.

Consultation and communication on safety matters is dealt with through various meetings. Tool box meetings are held regularly and deal with HSEQ matters at an operational level on a day to day basis. IMS Committee meetings are for dealing with HSEQ matters at a system level. Importantly, SAGE ensures its employees are suitably trained and supervised to ensure the delivery of high quality work is undertaken in a safe manner.

Environmental and Sustainability Management

SAGE is certified to ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems by DQS Certification and has been since August 2010. SAGE is committed to operating an environmentally sustainable business and will meet its clients’ needs while minimising any adverse environmental impacts.

SAGE actively monitors its carbon emissions using a central web based monitoring system. All resource usage can be measured, monitored and displayed for all to see using this system. The primary aim of this data collection is to understand, then reduce resource usage as well as improve the efficiency in the way resources are used, thereby reducing impact on the environment and saving money. SAGE will lead by example and share learnings with its clients. For further information see the attached Snapshot below:

In relation to waste, SAGE has achieved Zero Waste to landfill at its SA operations by sending all mixed waste to an alternate fuel facility. Improvements can still be made by ensuring SAGE’s overall waste is minimised and that all waste that is generated is separated into streams that can be reused or recycled. This ensures that SAGE has the minimum possible environmental impact from its operations.

Quality Management

SAGE is certified to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems by DQS Certification. SAGE has been certified to ISO 9001 since 1997.
